American Indians

Sharon Greenlee, Chairman

As the State Chairman of the American Indian Committee I would like to thank the Iowa DAR chapters for your support of this committee this past year. The numbers were higher this year for the number of American Indians Programs given. Monetary collections, Indian Minute or an American Indian Program for Indian Projects were reported.

For the coming year, the National American Indian Committee website includes some fascinating American Indian programs you can present as a program or use as American Indian minutes. It also will give you information on the Schools, Scholarships, Needs Lists, Grants, Camp and Pin information.

There are different areas you can make a financial donation to:

  1. Directly to the schools (Bacone or Chemawa)
  2. Indian Youth or American Summer Camp. Send donations to: Indian Youth of American, PO Box 2786, Sioux City IA 51106
  3. Contribute to the Friends of American Indian Scholarship Fund, American Indian Fund, or the summer camp thru the DAR Office of Development or by calling (800) 449-1776.

The success of the American Indian Committee depends on each of us in our chapters--together we can do so much for the Native American youth.

My wish for this year as chairman is that more chapters will report that they recognized our two American Indian Schools with a program, an Indian Minute or a donation.

I am looking forward to greeting you at ISDAR State Conference.
