Membership Committee
Donna Knight, Chairman
Hello Iowa Daughters!!! I have exciting
news to share with you!
At the 121st State Conference,
I set a goal of 175 new members (an average of
four per chapter) for Iowa in 2021. As of
August 5, the Iowa Society DAR has 52 new
members. 19 chapters have gained new members
and five chapters have added four or more new
members. So, keep up the good work. That means
we have 123 members to go before December!! We
can Rise to the occasion.
Membership brochures are available for
download on the ISDAR Committees webpage.
Print them and place them around your
communities. Use them to publicize your
chapter. Please let me know, if you have any
questions.
The State Application Team (SAT) is
working hard with chapters and prospective
members. We have five genealogists on the team
now, Carolyn DeLay, Linda Van Niewaal, Marlys
Ankrum, Cindi Carter and Rebecca Campbell. I
know it is challenging to contact the PMs
(prospective members) listed on the PMD.
Please keep reaching out. Let me know if you
have found a successful method of contacting
them. We have had at least 37
prospective members assigned to the SAT team
and so far, six have become members. We have
had three declined memberships at this time.
National also is expressing hope that
everyone will be part of the 2020ne
Challenge, asking each member to invite
a family member to join DAR. For Iowa, that
would mean at least an additional 1,621
members. I decided that 175 new members, in
honor of our state's 175th birthday
would be more obtainable.
Do you want to Shimmer, be a Radiant
or Brilliant Luminary? You can do
this by being someone who inspires or lights
the way for new members. These are the DAR
luminary challenge levels. National will award
this at the end of Mrs VanBuren’s term in June
2022 so look for your level at Fall Forum
2022. Shimmer: 5% increase in
new member applications OR 3% or less decrease
in membership through resignations or drops
for nonpayment of dues; Radiant:
10% increase in new member applications OR 2%
or less drop in resignations or drops for
nonpayment of dues; and finally Brilliant:
15% increase in number of chapters 25%
increase in membership ... a cumulative total
at the end of the administration is a 25%
increase in membership by new applications or
5% or less decrease in membership through
resignation or drops for nonpayment of dues.
LAST BIG NEWS: Inheritance project: From
Mrs VanBuren’s Blog, 8-4-2021: Daughters
who wish to inherit their mother’s or
grandmother’s Patriots will complete an online
form and pay a one-time $50 non-refundable
processing fee. Inheritance will be
established using existing approved
Applications and Supplemental Applications.
Once authorized, a member will be notified via
an automated email and the Genealogical
Research System will be updated. Inherited
Patriots will be listed on a member’s profile
page beneath her existing Ancestors, under the
new heading "Inherited Ancestors." You will be
eligible to buy ancestor bars. Any ancestor
that is red-flagged is not eligible nor are
any supplementals currently in the system
awaiting approval (i.e. they cannot be added
until approved by the normal process). This is
to start in September, so look for more
information. I will share further information
as it becomes available. This is just a
portion of her comments. You can see Mrs
VanBuren’s blog of August 4 ‘Updating
Continental Congress’ for additional
information and common question/answers
related to this topic.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.
