Iowa
Liaison to the Vietnam Veteran Commemoration
Candace Brown, Liaison
During 2017, ISDAR pinned over 3,000 Veterans.
We now have 51% of our Chapters as partners with
the Department of Defense. If your Chapter
hasn’t joined yet, it’s very simple. Go to http://www.vietnamwar50th.com/.
For those Chapter’s who are partners, visit the
web site to see all the new posters you can
download.
Being a partner can be as
simple as displaying the flag at your meeting
or during a parade or as elaborate as a
full-blown recognition ceremony. Here are some
other ideas:
- Start with your own Chapter
– Vietnam Veterans among your members,
friends or widows of Vietnam members
- Town festivals
- 50th class reunions
- On-the-spot recognitions
(carry a lapel pin and find a Veteran to
recognize)
- Other organizations hosting
a recognition (Chambers, Auxillaries,
Scouts)
I also contact the county
Veterans Affairs Officer and work with them.
They have a commemorative Vietnam book and
will usually give one to you to promote the
Veterans to go to their office.
Please feel free to email me or
call me if you need assistance with forms or
supplies. Don’t forget our special DAR
Certificates. Our Veterans really like them
too. I can help by preparing them and emailing
them to you ready for signature. This requires
pre-planning to get the name and branch of the
Veteran.
A Memorial Day interview by a Des Moines TV
station give a good overview of the Vietnam
Commemoration program:
