Americanism
Linda Harvan, Chairman
Our nation’s 250th
provides a unique opportunity to Illuminate
Our Legacy through citizenship!
For the 2025–2026 year, we encourage chapters
to take part in the Citizen Challenge,
which invites members to become familiar with
the Naturalization Test—either by hosting a
citizenship program or by taking the test
themselves. Through this initiative, we can
carry out the committee’s mission to practice,
promote, and celebrate patriotism, good
citizenship, and civics within our chapters,
states, and local communities.
The Americanism
committee oversees the approval process for
two medals:
- The DAR Medal of Honor is one of the
society’s most prestigious awards, recognizing
U.S. citizens by birth who demonstrate
exceptional leadership, patriotism, and
charitable service. Recipients must contribute
far beyond their normal duties, making lasting
impacts on their community, state, and nation;
DAR members are not eligible.
- The DAR Americanism Medal honors naturalized
U.S. citizens who have shown exceptional
leadership, patriotism, and charitable
service, particularly in supporting other
immigrants and community affairs. Recipients
must go above and beyond normal duties; DAR
members are not eligible.
The Americanism
Committee’s Chapter Master Report (CMR) will
focus on:
- Sharing the DAR Manual of Citizenship
- Americanism activities such as medals,
naturalization ceremonies, classes, and
Citizenship Day events
- Patriotic and citizenship programs,
including patriotic songs, chapter and public
programs, civic events, and the American’s
Creed
- Citizen Challenge–related activities
