Children of the American
Revolution (C.A.R.) Committee
Mary Davis Petersen, Chairman
The National Society Children of the American
Revolution, founded in 1895, is the country’s
largest and oldest patriotic youth organization.
According to Article II of the National Bylaws,
"Any boy or girl under the age of
22 is eligible for membership in the National
Society of the Children of the American
Revolution who is lineally descended from a
man or woman who, with unfailing loyalty,
rendered material aid to the cause of American
Independence as a soldier, sailor, civil
officer, or recognized patriot in one of the
several Colonies or States or of the United
States, provided that the applicant is
personally acceptable in the Society."
Daughters are also encouraged to reach out to
children, grandchildren, other family and friends
to enroll in C.A.R.
DAR members are invited to support C.A.R.
through monetary donations for both state and
national projects. We also invite you to
volunteer to serve as a senior state chairman or
learn more about organizing or re-organizing a
local C.A.R. Society in your town. Remember --
Iowa C.A.R. members and seniors are great
sources for DAR programs, please contact a
senior member of Iowa C.A.R. for information!
