DAR Magazine Goals During the Storage Administration

  • Commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America with intention and purpose. Stories should reflect on the values of liberty, democracy and the sacrifices made by those who came before us.
  • Commemorate the National Society’s unique contributions to the American story by documenting the efforts of states and chapters for posterity.
  • Tell member stories that celebrate the distinct qualities and perspectives of DAR members.
  • Support the goal of increased membership recruitment and retention by showcasing the many ways in which DAR membership benefits women as they serve their communities in pursuit of the DAR Mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism.
  • Promote enhanced member engagement with DAR publications.

Digital Magazine Transition

During the October 11, 2025, National Board of Management meeting, the Board considered a proposal regarding digitization of NSDAR’s two print publications, the American Spirit magazine and Daughters newsletter. The proposal was prepared by staff and the National Chair of the DAR Magazine Committee at the request of the Executive Committee.

Upon receiving, reviewing and considering the proposal, the Board voted to cease print, subscriber-only publication of American Spirit and Daughters with the March/April 2026 issues and to introduce a single digital publication in July/August 2026 that will be made available to all Daughters as a member resource at no cost. This new digital publication will be highly interactive and designed to welcome new DAR members and engage all members in the mission of the National Society, as well as feature a user-friendly, enjoyable mobile experience and opportunities for sharing content on social media as a public relations tool. We look forward to this next chapter for our DAR publications.
  • Information regarding dispensation of magazine subscriptions extending beyond the March/April 2026 issue was circulated in January.
  • May/June newsletter advertising should be submitted as normal. July/August advertising should be submitted as normal but may include color photographs. Additional information regarding digital publication advertising will also be available later in January.
  • There will no need to "register" for the digital publication. All members who have valid email addresses on file in e-Membership that have NOT been unsubscribed from DAR communications will receive it beginning in July. If you receive the DAR News Roundup once a month, you are subscribed.
