Iowa Room Committee
Our Corner in Washington, D.C.
Nancy Geiger, Chairman
There are over 30 Period Rooms in Memorial
Hall. In 1906, these rooms were offered for
state societies to purchase. The Iowa
Society was the first state to step forward!
In less than three years, the $1,000 purchase
price was paid.
Currently, the Iowa Room reflects a 1790’s
parlor. Before being a parlor, the room was
used by the Registrar General and before that
the Genealogical Editor of the DAR Magazine.
During WWII, the space was used by the
American Red Cross.
This space is known as Our Corner in
Washington, D.C.!
The Iowa Room, as it looked
at the Dedication of the new draperies, June
26, 2019.
