The ISDAR celebrates increases in membership in
three ways:
In 1973, State Regent Mrs. Flournoy Corey, who
diligently promoted membership throughout her
administration, donated the new membership trophy, a
large beautiful silver serving tray, the “Pauline
Pressley Corey Traveling Trophy.” She presented it
to the first State winner, the Lawrence Van Hook
Chapter of Maquoketa, Iowa’s newest chapter which
had the highest percentage of new gain in
membership, 13.3% for 1973.
This process continued until the Mus-Quo-Ta Chapter
of Muscatine returned it to the State Regent at
State Conference and the tray was lost. Miss Ina
Napier, State Chairman of Membership, purchased
smaller silver tray to be used as a substitute, and
awarded it each year, according to the rules for the
presentation of the Pauline Pressley Corey Traveling
Trophy Tray.
In August 1988, the State Regent, Mrs. Edward
Roustio, received a phone call from the Hotel
Savery, that a package belonging to the Iowa Society
DAR had been found when a closet was cleaned. She
made a special trip to Des Moines and discovered it
contained the missing Pauline Pressley Corey
Traveling Trophy Silver Tray. At the September 1988
Southeast District Meeting held in Iowa City, she
presented it to the Nathaniel Fellows Chapter, the
next winner due to receive it.
Because of the reappearance of the Pauline Pressley
Corey Traveling Trophy, at the 1989 State
Conference, it was decided that the second smaller
silver tray would be designated as the “Ina Napier
Silver Tray” and be awarded annually to the Iowa DAR
Chapter having the largest number of new members by
application during the contest year. the Ina Napier
Silver Tray, was awarded to the Iowa DAR chapter
having the largest number of new members by
application during the contest year. This history
was compiled by Lilian Roustio.
In 2004 Sandra L Tinker Curtis, Regent, Regent
Hannah Caldwell Chapter NSDAR 2002-2004, Davenport,
donated a custom made oak case for the tray to
ISDAR. The case was hand crafted by Jon B. Curtis,
HODAR.
