Public Relations & Media
Rhonda Robinett, Chair
Public Relations
and Media strive to inform DAR members and
their communities of our history
preservation, education, and patriotic
activities.
What does DAR do in my
community? Creating brand awareness means that
people in your community know what DAR is and
support your work. They know who you are and
what you are doing. They don’t hear about DAR
and think just of their grandmother. They hear
about your local chapter and think about
scholarships, preserving gravestones, or
dedicating landmarks or marching in parades.
Help them get familiar with what you are doing
in the community.
Writing an effective Press
Release about your Chapter is most important.
Please refer to the National Committee page
for Public Relations and Media and check out
the template to use for this.
Places where you could
record your chapter’s activities: Daughters
Newsletter with the American Spirit magazine,
your chapter newsletter, ISDAR newsletter,
your local newspaper, and social media. Become
familiar with the deadlines on all of these.
Social Media is an
important tool to use in sharing information.
There are two things to remember when using
this media.
First, review the Social Media Guidelines
carefully.
Second, remember that
photos of minor children ALWAYS require a
signed release. Please present this signed
release to Sue LeQuatte BEFORE you post and
you will given approval. Also, DO NOT post
names of minor children. (NSDAR
Photo Release)
I encourage you to spread the word about
the positive historic preservation, education,
and patriotic work in your community. Remember
to be responsible in your writing and that
President General is the official spokesperson
for the Society and only she can speak on
policies or positions of the National Society.
For any questions, please refer to the
Committee page on www.dar.org/members
or contact Sue LeQuatte, ladybass66@aol.com.
I encourage you to record
all the great activities that you chapter does
by using all the resources available and if
you haven’t done so yet, dip into the pool of
Social Media! You might be surprised at the
response.
