Service to America
Lucy Zeimet, Chair
"We want a society
founded on service,” Eugenia
Washington, DAR Founder
President General Ginnie Sebastian Storage
and State Regent Sarah Steinke are passionate
about a society of service. The Storage
Administration has set a high but realistic
goal for the national society of logging 17.7
million Service to America hours for the
Storage Administration term. Encourage and
support projects and service opportunities for
your Chapter to highlight historic
preservation, education, patriotism in unique,
local, and impactful ways. To log Service to
America volunteer hours go to: https://dar.org/onlinetally
NSDAR Annual Service to America Project --
Chapters are asked to support patriotism by
“performing acts of kindness for our First
Responders as the 25th Anniversary of 9/11”
(Patriot Day) draws near. Log the number of
cards sent, packages created and delivered and
hours spent in the online tally.
National DAR Day of Service honors the
Anniversary of DAR’s founding each October
11th. On or around that date, Iowa Chapters or
members are encouraged to engage in meaningful
service projects in their communities. Please
share these efforts , including pictures, with
the Service to America State Chair and also in
the DAR Service to America Community in the
Daughters Online Community (DOC). community.dar.org/home/memberhome
Chapters are encouraged to submit their
project for the Service to America Award
for Outstanding National DAR Day of Service
Project, details on NSDAR site.
- Log in all your volunteer hours either for
DAR work or any volunteer hours in your
community or other organizations. A very
comprehensive list of approved activities
(what counts as Service to America hours),
that can be logged, is found on the Service
to America Committee page on the NSDAR
member website.
- Reach out to those Chapter members who do
not regularly attend meetings. DAR members
in general tend to be prolific volunteers
for all things. Encourage them to log their
hours or offer to do for them.
- Chapters are encouraged to plan
meaningful service projects throughout the
year. Service in Seconds is a great
way to serve in little time. Consider
planning such an activity during a Chapter
meeting. Sending cards to 1st Responders,
active military, Veterans, cleaning
headstones, picking up or weeding rural
cemeteries etc are just some ideas.
- State Regent Sarah Steinke’s Regent
projects are focusing on education. Consider
adopting a classroom to help or donate
needed supplies, provide support for the
ISDAR Scholarship Fund, and/or support
Friends of Education on the National level.
- Remember your Service to America events or
hours when completing the Chapter Master
Report at the end of the year
- Review the Service to America Committee
site on the NSDAR member web site. It is the
place to go for more detailed information on
Service to America!
