The duties of a chapters Registrar are one of the most important chapter offices you will hold during your term, and I am honored to share this adventure with you. As mentioned on the Registrar General page, “you belong to a team of dedicated volunteer genealogists and researchers, with a passion for genealogy and dedication to DAR.” You play a big part in helping the Iowa Society DAR grow its membership.

The NSDAR Members' site has wonderful tools that will assist you with new member applications and supplementals. You will discover twenty-one (21) different tabs. GRS, Electronic applications, Forms and Checklists, are just a couple of the topics.

A wonderful tool, the Shooting Stars Newsletter, can be found on the Registrar General's page and issues date back to January 2023. You will find topics such as: changes and updates to supplementals, excess documentation, citing a source, do I remove the dash, find a grave questions, eApps & back to applications basics. Mrs. Parnell also has Resources and Tools that will help you with your duties as your chapter's Registrar. Examples are: Prospective Members Forms, Application Preparation for Registrars.

Have you considered sending a letter to your prospective members? On the National site, you can also find a great Application Preparation Acknowledgement Form. It tells your prospective members (PMs) about the cost of joining and gives them a heads-up about the documents that will be required. There is also an Application Information Sheet; your PM can provide you with valuable information for her first 4 generations. I really like the last one that states, we are excited your application is coming together. It's time to submit your necessary fees and dues.

I look forward to working with all of you during the Steinke administration,

Donna Knight
