Welcome!

Regent PhotoThe National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded October 11, 1890 and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.  DAR is a volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.

The Iowa Society was organized in 1891.  For over 110 years, Iowa Daughters have been active in their communities preserving history, promoting education, and fostering patriotism.  Currently there are 49 chapters with nearly 2,200 members across the state.  Members are between 18 and 100+ years of age.  The Iowa Daughters actively seek new members!

Iowa Daughters have placed nearly 300 historical markers, commemorating historical sites, as well as helping in the preservation of genealogical records and local histories in Iowa.  Iowa Daughters have also helped commemorate historical events such as the Lewis & Clark Expedition, Korean War, and the Louisiana Purchase.

Iowa DAR chapters also work with schools to promote youth programs such as DAR Good Citizens, American History Essay Contests, Junior American Citizens and provide scholarships, both at the National and State level.

Membership in the Society provides many opportunities to cherish our American Heritage, to preserve family and local histories, to promote the celebration of our national holidays, to support our national defense, to enjoy our beautiful member-owned buildings in Washington, D.C., and to form friendships with others who share our love of God, Home, and Country.
