The Cedar Falls Chapter, NSDAR, has been
active with several projects in the last two
years(2022-2024)
We submitted an entry for the Iowa quilt
square contest. A chapter member’s entry was
chosen to represent Iowa in the NSDAR
America 250 quilt. The quilt was unveiled at
the 2023 Continental Congress in Washington,
D.C. and is kept at the NSDAR headquarters.
A second project of the chapter has been a
Historic Preservation project at Elmwood
Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. The chapter helped
the cemetery by identifying and cleaning
military headstones. By October 6, 2023, we
had cleaned 631 military headstones, 160
headstones of military spouses, and 13
headstones on graves of non-military
personnel. The chapter continues to help the
cemetery with historic preservation of
cemetery records.
A third project had been the completion of
the Celebrations grant We were awarded funds
from the National Society Daughters of the
American Revolution to help with the
project.
The goal of the project was to purchase and
distribute two copies of the Our Patriot
Coloring Book to all elementary schools in
Black Hawk County. The book is an important
resource to teach students about a wide
range of American Patriots including male
and female; Native American and African
American patriots of the American
Revolution.
We purchased 52 copies of the Our Patriots
Coloring Book. Fourteen members distributed
them to all of the elementary schools in
Black Hawk county as well as the elementary
school in Independence, Iowa. This enabled
the chapter to make face to face connections
with our schools and their principals.
