John Lepper
was born 1765/1766 in Tyron County, New York.
He enlisted in the Revolution in New York at the age
of 15. He died August 17, 1840, north of
DeWitt in Clinton County, Iowa. He
had moved to Iowa Territory in 1839. His grave
was located in woods north of DeWitt. His grandson,
John Lepper of Mason City, Iowa, had his
remains exhumed and interred in Elmwood Cemetery at
DeWitt. Lepper’s grave was marked by the DeWitt DAR
Chapter.
